Our Story

Founded in 2014 in the heart of Cape Town, lunar-bamboo emerged from a simple belief: that meaningful travel experiences require local knowledge, genuine passion, and meticulous attention to detail.

Our founders spent years working in various corners of South Africa's tourism industry before recognising a gap in the market. Too many visitors were experiencing a sanitised, predictable version of our country. We wanted to change that.

Today, our team of twelve dedicated professionals brings together expertise in wildlife conservation, cultural anthropology, viticulture, and adventure sports. This diverse background allows us to craft journeys that touch every facet of what makes South Africa remarkable.

We maintain close relationships with community-owned lodges, conservation projects, and local artisans throughout the country. These partnerships ensure that your visit creates positive impact while providing you with authentic access that larger operators simply cannot match.

What Guides Us

🌍

Sustainable Practice

Every tour we operate considers environmental impact. We partner exclusively with eco-conscious providers and contribute to conservation initiatives across the regions we visit.

🤝

Community Connection

We believe tourism should benefit local communities. Our itineraries include opportunities to engage meaningfully with the people who call these places home.

Authentic Experience

We reject cookie-cutter tourism. Each journey is designed to reveal genuine moments and places that remain hidden from the typical tourist trail.

🛡️

Safety First

Your wellbeing is paramount. All our guides hold advanced first aid certifications, and we maintain 24/7 support throughout your journey.

Our Approach

Travel That Transforms

We believe the best journeys change us in subtle but lasting ways. A conversation with a local elder, an unexpected wildlife encounter, the taste of a wine you have never tried before—these moments accumulate into something greater than a holiday.

Our role is to create the conditions for these experiences to unfold naturally. We handle the logistics, anticipate your needs, and provide context that enriches what you see. But we also leave room for spontaneity, because the most treasured memories often arrive unplanned.

Each guide on our team has spent years developing deep expertise in their specialty areas. They share knowledge generously, answer questions with genuine enthusiasm, and often become the highlight of our guests' trips.
